Extended Master Organisation Studies

In the academic year 2011/2012 the Department of Organisation Studies will run the fourth year for the professional thesis trajectory - the Extended Master - for about 30 students. Students who are admitted to the Master Organisation Studies can choose to enter the regular one year Master OS or can apply for the Extended Master OS which will take 18 months.

The Extended Master intends to combine academic education and scientific research during the Master's thesis trajectory with in depth working experience in an organization to an extent that is not possible in the regular one-year Master's program.

In the first semester of the Extended Master, students follow the regular courses of the Master's program. During the second and third semester of the Extended Master, students attend a junior traineeship in one of the partner organizations of the department of OS. In the junior traineeship, students spend 50% per week on average on their Master's thesis research. The other half of the week, they carry out (project)activities for the partner organization. In that way, students get acquainted with different stages and aspects of the consultancy process.

The Extended Master Organisation Studies intends to:

· Broaden the students' knowledge about organizational life;

· Broaden the empirical basis of students' Master's theses and help them in the implementation of their theoretically embedded research questions;

· Get students acquainted with a work situation, in which they have to apply scientific theories and methods to practical problems;

· Broaden the knowledge of graduates who would like to enter the field of consulting;

· Get students acquainted with a situation in which they have to manoeuvre between the interests and wishes of different stakeholders;

· Support the transition from the academic program into a professional career.

For more advanced information about the Extended Master Organisation Studies, please have a look at the document Extended Master Organisation Studies in which the organizational setup and application procedure is explained (for the academic year 2010/2011). In addition, students can look at the profiles of the participating partner organizations (new partner organizations are currently recruited, so the list of partner organizations will grow!).
